John Moses Browning will probably be best remembered, historically, for the invention of the Winchester rifle and the Colt 45 automatic pistols. But Browning and his company, Browning firearms, also developed the popular line of Browning shotguns. Gun enthusiasts know, of course, not only the quality of Browning shotguns, but also the many different options on the market.
Buyers should know that before they go out and buy a gun, they should get the Browning shotguns that are right for the type of shooting they are doing.
One of the newer model Browning shotguns are the Cynergy guns. Cynergy guns are the first Browning shotguns to rework the classic over/under shotgun design since 1926. It has a more modern stock than most shotguns, and is very well weighted, more stylized for modern shooters. Its parent in the Browning shotguns line, the citori guns, are stronger field guns. Citori guns are a little heavier, but their older style work great for bird hunting or target shooting. Cynergy guns are really more for experienced or professional shooters, with the best options priced at $2,600. The Citori are only a little more inexpensive, with the stronger models retailing for around $2,500.
Browning shotguns also come in a wide variety of styles. Maybe the best demonstration of the different stylings of Browning shotguns are between BPS guns and the BT-99 shotguns. BT-99 shotguns are the most simple and basic of Browning's line, there are no special modifications to the BT-99, and it is best used as a training gun or for trap shooting. BPS guns, on the other hand, are far more complicated and versatile. BPS guns are pump action guns which have found many uses from hunting to police work. While both these guns handle remarkably well, the BT-99 is probably a little more intuitive, and better for users who are used to the more straight forward shooting action. The pump action guns are especially great for their versatility, with a more rapid rate of fire and bottom ejection which allows for easier right and left handed use. BTs are priced at $1,200, while BPSs are surprisingly inexpensive starting at around $500.
For those looking for a little more modern gun in the old style, the best Browning shotguns on the market are the Gold or Silver guns. Browning's Gold and Silver guns are considered the best of the Browning shotguns in terms of their precision and general handling, and feature full auto loading and an active valve system. The Silver guns especially are considered an excellent option for younger shooters, with a lot more general comfort and a wider array of usage than many of the other Browning shotguns for introductory users. The Silver guns run for between $800 and $900, while the Gold shotguns retail for $1,000-$2,000 depending on the features included.
Browning shotguns are the standard by which other shotguns are measured. Even within the general options listed here, there are dozens of different models and variations. Before purchasing any of the Browning shotguns, be it for hunting or target shooting, a shooter should make sure to find the shotgun that best fits his or her style. Beginning shooters should take a look at Silver or BT-99 shotguns, while more advanced target and bird hunters should give the high powered Citori or Cynergy models a try.
